  No Australia = No MO

Promoters have scrapped Australian tour plans for superstars Madonna, Neil Diamond and Paul McCartney because of the weak dollar.

Madonna had agreed to multiple dates in Sydney and Melbourne in late January, and was holding talks about possible gigs in Brisbane and Perth, with tickets expected to go on sale two weeks ago with a top ticket price of $400.

"It got as close as anything ever gets," a tour industry source said. "Madonna was coming to Australia, the dates were resolved but then the economics got in the way." That said...

Here in MADONNAMEXICO.COM we reported in November 6, about the 2009 extention of the tour, We where waiting to give all of YOU THE SURPRISE THAT MADONNA´S STICKY & SWEET TOUR would extend to 2009 with new dates in Australia, Japan and Mexico (with concerts in Monterrey and Guadalajara), all of whom where 99% CONFIRMED until today, so we don´t need to think that hard to understand that :

  • No Australia
  • =
  • No Japan
  • No Mexico

  Madonna on "Circus"

Britney Spears new 'Circus' has a song that contains Madonna's processed voice. The Material Girl's trademark voice can be heard for about 50 seconds in the song titled 'Kill the Lights'.

A whole verse has been sung in Madge's voice, including the line: "There's more to me than what you see." The song is about paparazzi, one of the least interesting
subjects known to man.

Britney even makes a throwaway reference to Madonna later in the song, which is suggested to be eligible to become a big dance hit in clubs. "Is Madonna gonna get the best of you?"

As Madonna completed her second song before a sell-out crowd in Miami's Dolphin Stadium Wednesday night, New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez handed her a bottle of water.

  Madonna & A-Rod Together!

Despite all the rumors and divorces, Madonna and Alex Rodriguez have never been seen cavorting together ... until now.

1

The 50-year-old pop diva and the 33-year-old Yankee were spotted exiting a private jet in Miami early Tuesday morning, along with their manager, Guy Oseary. Madge then got into A-Rod's waiting Maybach and the two drove off into the sunrise.

Looks like A-Rod & Madge celebrated the end of the U.S. leg of her appropriately-titled "Sticky and Sweet" tour in Miami last night.

  Diva delivers vibrant show

Madonna The Diva arrived at Philips Arena some 95 minutes after the start time printed on her $57 to $352 tickets, with one toned, stockinged leg cocked over her throne and an invitation to her “Candy Shop.”

Over the course of her almost two-hour, sold-out performance, Madonna The MTV Icon didn’t focus on the hit after hit after hit that made her so. Instead, current CD “Hard Candy” got better treatment than record buyers and radio programmers gave it, amplified especially well by her 10-plus dancers and galvanizing staging.

The production set’s towering video screens were bright with Keith Haring figures during her mid-’80s single “Into the Groove”; split into life-sized Justin Timberlake cutouts during “4 Minutes”; and were a surprising distraction showing Britney Spears having what looked like a meltdown in an elevator during “Human Nature.”

Though Monday’s concert was a mere three days after her preliminary divorce was granted, Madonna The Newly Single Woman made no reference to her soon-to-be ex, director Guy Richie —- as she had on an earlier stop of her “Sticky & Sweet” Tour. In fact, most of her interaction with the audience, which included her “Bedtime Stories” producer Dallas Austin, and her pick for a mid-90s Calvin Klein ad, Atlanta’s electric R&B singer Joi —- was a bit mechanical and distant.

But in the end, Madonna The Pop Star of a quarter century now, still put on an impressive stage show, re-imagining catalog hits like “Vogue” and “Borderline” with new musical vibrance. The almost eerily taut singer proves yet again that she’s still an evolving, all-around force.

Madonna and A-Rod Get Mile High

The Queen of Pop enjoyed the cozy company of 33-year-old rumored boy-toy Alex Rodriguez during a late-night private flight Monday, with the keep-'em-guessing couple arriving in Miami in the wee hours yesterdays morning.

The duo departed from Atlanta Monday, shortly after Madonna completed the Georgia stop on her Sticky & Sweet Tour, and landed just before 2 a.m.

"They got right into an SUV and drove away," a source at Miami's Signature airport told us. "They didn't want anyone to see them."

Leave it to Madonna to ensure her flights of fancy include an actual flight.

Madonna, and presumably A-Rod, are expected to stay in Miami for a few days, shacking up in a secluded mansion.

The trip will combine both business and, one would assume, pleasure. The now two-time divorcée is set to perform to a sellout crowd at Miami's Dolphin Stadium Wednesday night.

A-Rod: Ditching Kids for Madonna at Thanksgiving

It would seem Alex Rodriguez is a real turkey when it comes to his children.

According to Access Hollywood, the New York Yankees ballplayer, 33, is bailing on spending Thanksgiving in Miami with his 36-year-old wife Cynthia—whom he's in the process of divorcing—and their daughters Natasha, 4, and Ella, 1.

Instead, he'll apparently be hosting his girlfriend Madonna, 50, her daughter Lourdes, 12, and his and Madge's mutual manager Guy Oseary, 36, at his Manhattan apartment.

“My 6-foot-3, 220-pound soul-less, soon-to-be ex-husband is abandoning his kids on Thanksgiving to be with Madonna… She called and he ran on her command back to New York City . . . Gross!” Cynthia allegedly wrote in an e-mail to a friend, cites Access Hollywod.

The message from Cynthia is said to have described the Material Matron in "not so nice terms."

Rodriguez filed for divorce from his wife of over five years in July.

  Married to Madge

WHO DID he think he married, when he married me?"

That was Marilyn Monroe, complaining in astonishment to friends, as her marriage to baseball's Joe DiMaggio unraveled.

So, I wonder, who did Guy Ritchie think he was marrying when he said "I do" with Madonna? And, who or what did Madonna think she was getting when she waltzed down the aisle at Skibo Castle in Scotland?

They had dated a couple of years. They christened their son, Rocco, right before the wedding. Madonna was the most famous woman in the world. Did he think that would change? It didn't. It hasn't. (Only Angelina Jolie gives the Big M a run for newspaper space.) Were they just like "everybody else," showing their best side, and then waking up after the rice had been thrown and the veil lifted (literally) to contend with reality and disillusionment?

Madonna has gone on the record saying she was bereft when she faced the fact that Guy wasn't who she thought he was. And she said that a few years back. She didn't say, however, who she thought she had married.

Guy hasn't spoken, but perhaps he doesn't need to. He and the ex-Mrs. Ritchie worked together three times. First in a car commercial, wherein Madonna is a bitchy diva abused by her driver . . . then he directed her video for "What It Feels Like for a Girl," in which she is an angry, abused woman . . . finally they paired up for the disastrous "Swept Away," in which Madonna plays (surprise!) a rich bitch who is brought low and abused by the servant she initially torments - in the end she falls in love with him. OK folks, what exactly was Guy Ritchie trying to tell us?!!

After "Swept Away" was swept away, I couldn't help but think back on Richard Burton's "Doctor Faustus" film. The subject obsessed him: a man who sells his soul for riches and fame and the world's most beautiful woman. Burton cast his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, as Helen of Troy, and she is all done-up in various body paints and glitter and towering wigs. But in the end, when Faustus has to give it up to the devil, who is it that greets him at the chasm of hell, cackling and pulling him down? Elizabeth/Helen. It's a fairly devastating denouement, though I don't think Elizabeth got it. She just liked the wigs.

Was Guy Ritchie trying to assert himself by casting his wife as he did, attempting to convey that he was not her creature, and in fact, she danced to his tune? Was he trying to escape any notion of having sold his soul for all that life offered as the husband of an icon? And did this reflect home life - a meek and conciliatory Madonna, as opposed to the relationship power-player she had usually been? (Madonna's first marriage, to Sean Penn, ended because she was Madonna, and, apparently, Sean, too, didn't remember to whom he was married.)

Maybe the next step for Madonna is a guidebook: "How To Stay Married to an Extremely Famous Woman - One Easy Step - You Are Married to an Extremely Famous Woman, Deal With It!"

It certainly seemed to me she was supportive and actively involved in trying to help Guy's career - she believed very much in his long-delayed, oft re-edited film "Revolver." And she lent her presence, if by then nothing else, to the premiere of "RocknRolla," assuring publicity for Guy's movie.

I KNOW that Madonna is no day at the beach. She is driven and controlling, and seeks strenuously to find relief from the very self-centered qualities that have made her rich and famous. (Less chaos, more kindness through kabbalah!) But - and now for the big reveal! - Madonna has real and true vulnerability. It is a side she shows only to those she loves and trusts. It is not something she uses to woo audiences. They admire her for her "attitude" and strength. Actually, she is rather poignantly romantic. Did Madonna let her guard down too much? Expect more attention, appreciation, affection? Did she find her handsome, laddish hubby was less sensitive but more serious than she had initially believed? Did she offer the side of herself she keeps so close, only to have it ignored, taken for granted, mocked?

It's over now. It began - certainly for Madonna - in the very best spirit; she kept the wedding private. No photos were released or sold. (Somebody looking for money did release a couple of shots, when the divorce news broke.) The marriage ceremony and vows are no joke to this Catholic-raised Michigan native. Love, or infatuated hope, has dissolved to who gets what. Well, Madonna gets to go onstage every night and push her body to the limit for screaming fans who think she is made of steel. She will worry - as all ambitious working women do - if she is giving enough to her children. And will she ever heal and love again? (On the latter, I feel sure the balm to that wound is available.)

Guy Ritchie gets about $70 million. He is not walking away "without a penny." Please! He was no poor boy picked up from nowhere; so now he has to be compensated to support the life to which he has become accustomed. Guy Ritchie had a name and considerable cash when he and Madonna married. He's earning about $4 million right now for directing "Sherlock Holmes." But once you taste the really high life, you hold on if you can.

If not to the woman, at least to her money.

  Madonna "I'm sad"

Madonna is speaking out for the first time since her divorce decree from Guy Ritchie!

The material mom tells the Associated Press that while breaking up is hard to do, her heavy workload "provides a distraction that keeps me going."

She is currently on tour and promoting 'I Am Because We Are,' her documentary about children orphaned by AIDS in the African nation.

"I'm sad about my personal life, but I feel very blessed and very lucky that I have the opportunity to do what I do in my professional life," Madonna said in an interview with the AP Sunday. "It would be horrible if I was just thinking about getting a divorce and had nothing to do."

  Documentary on Sundance Channel

In case you haven’t heard, Madonna adopted a little boy from Malawi last year. Never one to do anything halfway, she went on to carry the cause of the entire nation, writing and producing a documentary, I Am Because We Are (premiering December 1 on Sundance Channel). Part public-service announcement and part well-intentioned vanity project, the film explains how AIDS is ravaging Malawi, leaving a million children orphaned and impoverished so far. Who’s that Girl? this ain’t.

As the film opens, with Madge narrating (with a hint of that faux-British accent), there’s some requisite superstar presence. But Madonna doesn’t get personal; baby David's adoption warrants only a quick mention while Bill Clinton and Desmond Tutu appear to plead Malawi’s case.

Celebrity — and cynicism — aside, I Am... is a genuinely powerful and beautifully shot call to action. Directed eloquently by Nathan Rissman (who got the gig while dating Madonna’s nanny and working as her assistant and gardener), it is brutal and powerful, as stories of children fighting valiantly for survival must be.

I Am Because We Are premieres December 1 at 9 PM on Sundance Channel.

Madonna is doing her best to get through her split from husband Guy Ritchie – with a little help from ex-husband Sean Penn, according to a source close to the singer.

"It's a sad situation, but she's not heartbroken," says the source, who saw the 50-year-old icon hours before a London court granted the couple a preliminary "quickie divorce" on Friday. "She's handling it well."

Madonna, who rocked Philadelphia as part of her Sticky and Sweet tour on Thursday, is focusing on her work and her children to keep her mind off the end of her nearly eight-year marriage to Ritchie, says the source. "She's got a very busy life."

Also helping her through the tough time is her ex-husband. The singer and Penn were spotted having drinks at the Greenwich Hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday night. "They have a nice rapport," says the source. "There's nothing romantic there. They're just good friends."

  "Everybody" Atlantic City

Madonna concerts are about excess. As the Material Girl evolved into the biggest female pop superstar of the last 25 years, her shows enlarged in scope tour by tour.
So it shouldn't surprise anyone that Madonna's return to Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, presented by Caesars Atlantic City, offered fans one of her biggest spectacles yet.
To put things in perspective, her Sticky & Sweet Tour transports 350 tons of equipment, 600 pieces of luggage, 100,000 feet of electrical cable, 71 guitars and 16 caterers from city to city. There also are five people who change Madonna into different costumes behind the scenes, a playroom for Madonna's children and four large freezers that hold nothing but ice packs for Madonna and her 28 dancers.
But it's what fans see on stage that really matters. And Madonna's latest tour is on par with the biggest shows Boardwalk Hall has ever hosted, rivaled only by The Rolling Stones and Madonna's last stop here.
The massive stage features two main platforms, one in the front and one at the end of a large ramp that extends through the middle of the sold-out crowd. There are nine hydraulic lifts that help Madonna, her dancers and DJ Enferno make spectacular appearances from under the stage. There's at least seven large video screens and a big cylindrical projection screen in the middle of the arena, ensuring the audience doesn't miss a thing. There's even a 1935 Auburn Speedster sports car that brings Madonna and her dancers to the stage. And don't forget the lasers, conveyer belt and boxing ring.
No doubt, the spectacle is there.
But can the recent divorcee still bring it musically? She certainly can.
On tour to support this year's Hard Candy CD, Madonna's voice sounds pretty great. She still looks incredibly sexy with her bulging biceps and washboard abs. And she remains a terrific dancer.
Performing 23 songs from her storied career in four sets - "Pimp," "N.Y. Old School," "Romani Gypsy" and "Rave Armageddon," the latter with a futuristic dance floor - the setlist was heavy on her new album. She offered a whopping nine new songs from the 12-cut album, which is OK when she delivers classic albums such as Music and Ray Of Light, but with a mediocre CD such as Hard Candy, nine songs is a lot to take, even with the eye-popping visuals.

The show began with Madonna arriving to the stage on a throne and blasting into back-to-back Hard Candy offerings - Candy Shop and Beat Goes On - before beginning to roll out some big hits, including Human Nature and Vogue, followed by a remix of her James Bond theme song, Die Another Day, in a video interlude.
The setlist certainly featured some nostalgic Madonna goodies, including a classic-rock version of Borderline, the still-incredible dance tune Into The Groove and the crowd favorite Like A Prayer, which feature freestyle dancing ninjas.
Of course, Madonna also rolled out the more techno-driven dance songs that helped reinvent her career, including Ray Of Light, Music and Hung Up. Her closer, Give It 2 Me, a fast-paced new track, served as a perfect encore and had the crowd dancing harder and singing louder than it did all night.
Along with the heavy Hard Candy setlist, there were a few other disappointments. The fact that Madonna, who is clearly not a great fretwoman, picks up the guitar for at least six songs is totally unnecessary. It also seemed like there was less overall dancing than on her Confessions Tour.
But there were far more positives than negatives, as there should be for a two-hour concert that received $350 for its top ticket price at the box office.
She's Not Me, one of the best songs off Hard Candy, came with Madonna's trademark attitude as she walked by fake Madonnas dressed as her in nostalgic Madonna garb, pointing her finger at them and verbally assaulting them one by one. La Isla Bonita was reworked as a country song with fiddles and an accordian - and was strangely satisfying. She showed her vocal chops on You Must Love Me, her Evita single that she nicely performed backed by four Gypsy musicians. And the virtual appearances via video screens from Kanye West, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell were very cool, with Britney Spears' appearance trapped in an elevator during Human Nature offering a real crowd-pleaser.
At 50 years old, Madonna remains the single most relevant female pop star in the world. If the Sticky & Sweet Tour affirms one thing, it's that Madonna still holds the title of "Queen of Pop." And it looks like she's not ready to relinquish it any time soon
