  Mo & Mercy in London

It's the most gentle of gestures - a tiny hand holding tightly onto the jacket of the woman carefully cradling her. This is the first glimpse of pop star Madonna and her new daughter Mercy James - who were united yesterday after the child flew into Britain.

2

Hours after the four-year-old arrived on a flight from Malawi to Heathrow she got a taste of her new life as she joined her family on a trip to London''s Kabbalah centre.

The hand of Mercy: Madonna's new daughter holds on tight as they visit the Kabbalah centre in London. Hidden beneath a sea of shielding umbrellas Mercy was briefly glimpsed as she joined older sister Lourdes, and brothers David and Rocco at the centre.

1

Even Madonna's ex-husband Guy Ritchie was at the centre to meet the new arrival, whose adoption he publicly supported. Madonna, 50, had flown into Britain from New York with her three other children hours earlier.

It is thought to be the first time that she has seen her new daughter since she travelled to Malawi in April when her adoption bid was initially rejected before being approved this month.Malawian police arranged for the airport terminal in Lilongwe to shut so Mercy and her new nanny Joanne could leave privately on a private six-seater Cessna Citation plane.
They headed to Johannesburg on the first leg of their journey.

From there the group flew first-class on a night flight to Heathrow, landing at 6.30am.Earlier Mercy was said to be filled with excitement at leaving her temporary home at Kumbali Lodge in Malawi. One member of staff said: ‘She was running around, singing to herself and telling everyone how she would be flying for the first time.’

3

She said goodbye in her native language, telling staff: ‘I’m going now, I’m going on a plane, I’m going up to the sky.’ Before Mercy could leave Malawi, she had to await a passport - and for her new mother's staff to arrange the travel plans.Madonna's other children were introduced to their little sister in April and were reportedly distressed to have to leave her behind when Malawi's high court turned down the singer's application because she was not resident in the country.
This decision was overturned by the supreme court which ruled the lower court had erred in its decision.Despite Madonna's avowed love for the child, she was unable to make it to Malawi for the hearing and was represented by her lawyer, Alan Chinula. Mercy will leave behind the orphanage for a new home in New York.It has been reported that Madonna has just splashed out £25million on a Georgian-style townhouse in the Upper East Side.

The 26-room property is said to have 13 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.Instead of being raised in the Christian faith practised by her Malawian family, Mercy will be instructed in Kabbalah, the mystical faith followed by Madonna.
Rights groups have accused the government of giving Madonna special treatment and said the case would encourage foreign celebrities to think they can adopt Malawian children at will.Mercy's father said Madonna, who is dating 22-year-old Brazilian model Jesus Luz should not be allowed to adopt Mercy.'No one wants to listen to me, I have protested this all along... I want my child back but I don't know what to do now,' James Kambewa said.'Madonna cannot take her away.'There is little he can do now - the supreme court ruling cannot be challenged.

  S&S Frozen 2009!

After hearing and reporting that Holiday will be replacing Heartbeat and a rocky version of Dress You Up, played on a guitar riff calling to mind The Knack's song "My Sharona", will take the place of Bordeline in the Old School part of the show we heard that there's another surprising song change in the show. This time the surprising news is that a dance version of the 1998 hit single Frozen is being rehearsed in the place of the "not so loved by fans" "Rock guitar version" of Hung Up!.

  Mercy leaves Africa

Mercy Chifundo James, the three-year-old Malawian toddler pop diva Madonna adopted from the southern African country, literally sneaked into London today, Saturday morning.

"A private jet flew in from South Africa and collected her at five minutes to six last evening," said an airport source, adding "she connected to London from Jo h annesburg at 10.30."

The orphan, who will be joining big sister, Lourdes, brothers Rocco and David Banda, another adopted three-year-old from Malawi, was accompanied by a nanny, a child nurse - both female and a male aide.

Madonna, who was seen leaving London on a private jet Friday afternoon, having flew in from New York's JFK Airport, was still expected in Malawi but no one could confirm when she would arrive.

"There are still preparations for her coming," said a source at Raising Malawi, the charity the singer set up for her Malawi cause, disclosing "we still have a t wo-week booking at Kumbali Lodge."

Kumbali Lodge, the exclusive ranch Madonna stayed during all her three visits to Malawi, was being spruced up for her coming all through last week.

However, on Friday, workers were told to help load luggage belonging to the singer's advance party.

Guy Pickering, the owner of the lodge, confirmed his place has been booked for two weeks but could not be drawn into discussing who made the booking.

"We don't discuss our clients; that's private information," Pickering said.

  "Take good care of her"

The father of a Malawian girl being adopted by Madonna says he has dropped his fight to get the child back and has urged the U.S. pop star to take good care of her. Malawi’s Supreme Court on Friday approved Madonna’s application to adopt a second child from the country, overturning a lower court ruling. James Kambewa, the father of 4-year-old Mercy James, originally said he opposed the adoption. However, he told Reuters on Saturday he had decided not to fight the case, asking only that Mercy be brought up knowing he was her biological father.“Let the child go … My only plea to Madonna is that she should seriously look after the child,” he said in an interview.“I am asking Madonna to make sure that, while the child is growing, she must be informed of me as her biological father … she really must know that while she is far away the father is still alive.”A Malawian court ruled in April that Madonna could not adopt Mercy because she was not a resident of the southern African country. The Supreme Court overturned that decision, saying the child, who has been living in an orphanage, would have a better life with the singer. She never lived with Kambewa.“When the child was born I was never told,” he said.Rights groups have accused the government of giving Madonna special treatment by skirting laws preventing non-residents from adopting children. The government came under fire in 2006 after Madonna, who has supported orphans in the country through her Raising Malawi charity, adopted 13-month-old David Banda.

This is little Mercy James, pictured in Malawi last week on the day the country’s Appeal Court agreed that she can join Madonna and her family for a new life in New York. Officials at the charity said Mercy was expected to be flown out of Malawi this week.

  Nanny & nurse for Mercy

Madonna has flown in a nanny and a nurse to look after Malawian child Mercy James who will arrive at her lodge in Malawi Monday.Other aides will also care for the four-year-old while adoption papers and visas are arranged. She will stay with the pop star at her luxury pad in the capital Lilongwe, reports thesun.co.uk Once the papers are ready, a private jet will take Mercy to the US to join new sister Lourdes, 12, and brothers — Rocco, eight, and David, three. Malawi’s highest court Friday gave the thumbs-up to Madonna’s bid to adopt a second child from the impoverished southern African country, citing her charity work in the country as proof she deserved four-year-old Mercy.
