  Mo in Jerusalem

Madonna has joined the Israeli prime minister and his family in the traditional ritual that welcomes the Jewish Sabbath, lighting candles and reciting a blessing together with Benjamin Netanyahu's wife Sarah. A statement from Netanyahu's office says the singer spent two hours at the Netanyahu home on Friday evening.

Although not Jewish, the 51-year-old pop star claims a special bond with Israel and Jewish tradition. She's been exploring Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism, for more than a decade and has taken the Hebrew name, Esther. She arrived in Israel on Sunday and performed in Tel Aviv on Tuesday and Wednesday. She was wearing a short-sleeved black dress as she left the heavily guarded Netanyahu home Friday.

  Sticky & Sweet makes History!

"Sticky & Sweet" Tour made history as it wrapped up last night with two final shows in Tel Aviv, Israel at Yehoshua Gardens (HaYarkon Park, September 1 and 2). The Material Girl more than lives up to her name, as her tour becomes the most successful tour ever by a solo artist. After playing 85 shows since its launch in August 2008, Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" has drawn more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries and has grossed $408 million, it was announced today by Live Nation, the tour's global producer. "Sticky & Sweet" is also the second highest grossing tour of all time.

Madonna set an attendance record for the biggest crowds in history in Zurich, Switzerland, where she drew the largest audience ever assembled for a show in that country (72,000). Her Gothenburg, Sweden show, seen by 119,000 fans, broke the record for highest grossing multiple shows in the country's history. In Helsinki, Finland, "Sticky & Sweet" sold more than 85,000 tickets, making it the biggest single show by an artist in history for all of Scandinavia. Other highlights on the tour included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina (256,000), Santiago, Chile (146,000), Sao Paulo, Brazil (203,000), Tallinn, Estonia (72,000), Warsaw, Poland (79,000), Bucharest, Romania (69,000), and Sofia, Bulgaria (54,000).

"With 'Sticky & Sweet' Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially," said Arthur Fogel, Live Nation's Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring.

"Sticky & Sweet" broke Madonna's previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist with her 2006 Confessions Tour, which grossed $194 million.

Las night the whole family was on stage. Little David danced on stage during Paul Oakenfold’s set, Rocco was helping DJ Enferno during Music and Lola was playing the piano during Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You. The show ended again with Madonna and Lola holding hands. Madonna was full of emotions and energy, to a point where she was almost losing her voice during Ray of Light, yelled “What’s this shit?!” during Spanish Lesson, not wanting to sing the first lines of Miles Away because she jokingly said she couldn’t focus and having difficulty singing the final lines of You Must Love me due to the tears. Her speech, was very touching…

I feel like I should say a few words on this very last show of my tour.
I couldn’t pick a better place to end my tour here, in Israel.
The energy center of the universe.
The birthplace of some of my favourite people in the world.
Guy Oseary being one of them. I love you Guy.
You know, I had such an amazing time doing this show, it’s hardest thing I’ve ever done and the best thing I’ve ever done.
and I want to thank everybody.
You cannot imagine how lucky and blessed I feel to be able to do what I do.
I’m the luckiest girl in the world.
And to spend my last evening with you tonight and there’s people here from all over the world
It feels like a historical moment and I don’t want it to end.
So I’ll savour every moment and I hope you do to. Thank You!.

Madonna's son, Rocco, danced on stage during the Paul Oakenfold set and then with DJ Inferno during her mother performance of Music.

Lourdes (aka Lola) dances on stage with her mother, Madonna in Tel Aviv, Israel, during the last show. She dances during the rehearsals and the Give It To Me finale. Lourdes also plays the piano during Devil Wouldn't Recognize You.

ROLLING STONE REVIEW

Madonna’s new video for “Celebration,” one of two new tracks on her upcoming greatest hits collection of the same name, was released this morning on iTunes (it will be available as a free download for 48 hours before going up for purchase on Thursday). Director Jonas Akerlund, who previously collaborated with the Material Girl on the videos for her Grammy-winning “Ray of Light,” “Music” and “Jump,” filmed the “Celebration” clip in Milan, Italy in between dates of her Sticky & Sweet Tour. The video is pretty much what’s advertised in the title: it’s a “celebration” of Madonna’s career, with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer proving her dance moves are still razor-sharp as she turns 51. If the DJ in the video looks familiar, it’s because Madonna’s rumored boyfriend Jesus Luz plays the role, and though she hasn’t publicly spoken about her relationship with the Brazilian model, they get mighty close in the clip. Madonna’s oldest daughter Lourdes “Lola” Leon also makes a cameo. Based on the teaser-trailers that preceded the “Celebration” video, it appeared that producer Paul Oakenfold’s wacky dance moves would be in the vid, but Oakenfold’s appearance did not survive the final cut. So why is iTunes giving away the video for free? Probably because it’s a good way to make you aware of their Celebration pre-order deals, which also opened today on Apple’s digital music service. The compilation is being offered as three packages: there’s the standard version, which features 17 Madonna hits and “Celebration.” The Deluxe Celebration includes two discs of greatest hits, “Celebration,” a “Celebration” remix and collaboration with Lil Wayne, “Revolver.” And then there’s the Premium deal, which is the Deluxe set plus 30 music videos from Madonna’s entire career. The Premium version also includes a previously unreleased bonus track called “It’s So Cool” and the uncensored “Justify My Love” video. All three Celebrations will be released September 29th.

  S&S Israel Tonight!

T H E F I N A L S H O W

Madonna brought her mix of provocative music and spirituality to the Holy Land with a concert Tuesday in front of 50,000 fans who had endured a 16-year wait since the pop icon's last gig in Israel.Madonna is wrapping up her worldwide "Sticky & Sweet" tour with two concerts this week in a country whose place at the heart of the Mideast conflict has made it more of a magnet for diplomats than big-name performers.

Madonna took the stage about a half hour late Tuesday night, opening with her 2008 single, "Candy Shop" and moving through a tightly choreographed performance that included a series of colorful costumes — beginning with a skimpy, black body suit with fishnet stockings and knee-high boots — and range of hits, new and old."I shouldn't have stayed so long away," she told the adoring crowd midway through the show, as she broke away from the script to express her affection for the country."Every time I come here, I get so supercharged with energy," she said. "I truly believe that Israel is the energy center of the world. And I also believe that if we can all live together in harmony in this place, then we can live in peace all over the world."The 51-year-old entertainer has long claimed a special bond with the Jewish state. She's been dabbling in Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism, for more than a decade and has taken on a Hebrew name, Esther. She's come on private pilgrimages in recent years. She has visited the Jewish holy site at the Western Wall in Jerusalem since arriving in Israel on Sunday.During a rousing finale of Give it 2 Me, Madonna wrapped an Israeli flag around herself and paraded around the stage.Madonna was scheduled to perform again on Wednesday at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park, the same outdoor site as Tuesday's show."One of the reasons she attracts such large crowds is that she has a special connection to Israel," said Chen Shasha, a 24-year-old law student attending the concert. "Israelis appreciate the fact that someone appreciates them and approaches them and is willing to look into things such as Kabbalah.

1

"Israeli radio stations played Madonna songs through the day Tuesday, and recorded Madonna tunes greeted concertgoers as they lined up to enter the concert grounds. On Israel's Army Radio, a DJ interrupted a song briefly to quip that "tonight, Aunt Esther is playing at Hayarkon Park."Late Monday, the pop diva dined with Israel's moderate parliamentary opposition leader, Tzipi Livni, at Madonna's request, Livni spokesman Gil Messing said. Her main political rival, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will receive Madonna at his Jerusalem residence on Friday.Madonna last performed in Israel in 1993 but came on private pilgrimages in 2004 and 2007 along with other Kabbalah devotees. Her previous two stops on the current tour, in Romania and Bulgaria, were marred by controversy. In Bulgaria, Orthodox Church officials accused the singer of showing disrespect for Christianity. In Romania, she was booed during her concert for criticizing widespread discrimination against eastern Europe's Gypsies, also known as Roma.In Israel, some rabbis have criticized her involvement in Kabbalah. Madonna was raised a Roman Catholic. She wrote in an article for an Israeli newspaper last month that the study of Kabbalah helped her understand life better.Jewish tradition holds that Kabbalah is so complicated and so easily misunderstood that students may only begin to approach it with a strong background in Jewish law and only after age 40.Still, Madonna's fans are happy she's in Israel. Her first show sold out quickly, and a second was added. After years of concerns over political tensions and violence, more world artists are performing to Israel. The Jerusalem Post, said Madonna's performances are a sign that Israel is becoming more attractive as a concert venue.

  MTV desperate for Madonna

The Net has been abuzz for a bit that Madonna will make an appearance at the Video Music Awards in New York next weekend. Even though the queen's rep shot down that possibility to Marc Malkin last week, we hear MTV isn't ready to give up. So how might they entice Madge to hop onboard the very hyped show this year? By dangling the M.J. card, obviously. We hear the VMAs are going to have a "big" Michael Jackson component, and execs are dying for Madonna to pay tribute to the King of Pop, because really, who else can?So if Her Madgesty is a deal sealer for you to tune into the VMAs, we're told it very much could happen.

She'll have wrapped the second leg of her Sticky & Sweet Tour, and on top of her love for M.J., Madonna coincidentally has her new single, "Celebration," to promote. When it comes right down to it, every publicity appearance is calculated for someone of her stature.

Even Lourdes and Jesus Luz have been considered to join in, tha would be so cool!.

  Praises for Madonna

Romania's self-styled King of the Gypsies praised Madonna on Wednesday for using her "Sticky & Sweet" world tour to speak out on behalf of Gypsies.Last week, Madonna drew international attention by saying during a concert in Bucharest that widespread discrimination against eastern Europe's Gypsies, also known as Roma, should end. Thousands of fans responded by booing her."Madonna is the only international personality to have raised the problem of discrimination against the Roma in Europe," Florin Cioaba said in an interview with Agerpres, Romania's national news agency. Cioaba is one of the nation's best known Gypsy public figures. He gained the unofficial title King of all Gypsies from his father, Ion Cioaba, when he died in 1997.On Wednesday, Cioaba said from his Transylvanian city of Sibiu that he would send Madonna an award carved in gold."I have never given one of these before. ... It's because Madonna is a fighter for Roma rights in Europe," he was quoted as saying."What Madonna did means a lot to us, it amounts to everything that Roma organizations have done all over Europe" to highlight the problems that Gypsies face, Cioaba said.Earlier Wednesday, two Americans — a Hindu and a rabbi — urged Madonna to take up the cause of Gypsies in Europe.Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich said Madonna could be "effective" in focusing public opinion on the problems faced by Gypsies. The two men — both of whom work in Nevada — said the "Roma issue should be one of the highest priorities of the human rights agenda of Europe."Zed and Freirich have both spoken out on behalf of Europe's Roma population before.Romania has the largest number of Roma in Europe, with the population as high as 2 million. Human rights advocates say Gypsies probably suffer more humiliation and endure more discrimination than any other people on the continent. The nomadic ethnic group lives mostly in southern and eastern Europe, and the European Union's Fundamental Rights Agency has said Gypsies face "overt discrimination" in housing, health care and education. They often lack the official identification needed to get decent jobs.Cioaba gained international attention in 2003 when he served as a minister during a ceremony that married his 12-year-old daughter to a 15-year-old Gypsy boy in an arranged marriage. The wedding made headlines after Cioaba's daughter, Ana Maria, stormed out of the church. The EU envoy to Romania at the time, Baroness Emma Nicholson, demanded that the couple be separated and said that if that wasn't done Romania could jeopardize its efforts at the time to join the European Union.Cioaba initially protested, saying Gypsies should be allowed to follow their own customs, but he later acquiesced and the couple were separated. Until then, arranged Gypsy marriages between teenagers were relatively common, but not legally recognized. The legal age for marriage in Romania is 18, with 16 year olds allowed to marry with parental consent.
