| Burning Up accident | |||
If you have VH1 Classic, there is a show called The Music Video Exposed. The director of "Burning Up", Steve Barron, said when M was laying in the boat on the lake, they were filming from above her using a "massive" crane. The shot wasn't lined up correctly, so when they extended the arm out until they were directly over her, the wheels of the apparatus behind them lifted off the ground, and the whole thing started to tip over. He said if they had extended the arm out even an inch or two further, the crane would have fallen on her and she "definitely would have died".

| Casting for W.E. | |||
Madonna has persuaded hot actress Abbie Cornish to be in her film, based on the Edward VIII Abdication crisis. The movie, W.E., tells parallel tales about Wallis Simpson in the 1930s and a contemporary woman called Wally Winthrop, who has romantic problems of her own – in addition to the fact that she’s obsessed with the Duchess of Windsor’s life. Abbie, who starred opposite Ben Whishaw in Jane Campion’s film Bright Star, will play the part of Wally once negotiations have been finalized. Vera Farmiga will portray the Duchess. At the supper following last Sunday’s Orange British Academy Film Awards, Vera told her deal for W.E. had not been completed. The participation of both actresses depends on who is cast in the two main male roles – Edward VIII, who became the Duke of Windsor after he gave up the throne for the woman he loved, and a Russian security guard, who sexually satisfies the married Wally. The W.E. script has shown considerable improvement compared to an earlier version by Madonna and Alex Keshishian that I saw last year – there have been many drafts. Madonna travels to Los Angeles early next month to meet with potential leading men. Then she’ll head to London to inspect actors to play Edward. The film will shoot from June on locations in London and the Home Counties, with short forays to New York and the South of France. Vera will also be in Los Angeles around the same time as Madonna. She’s a contender in the best supporting actress category for her performance, opposite George Clooney, in Jason Reitman’s acclaimed best picture hopeful Up In The Air. Australian-born Abbie first came to major attention in the film Somersault six years ago, as did Sam Worthington (who plays Jake in James Cameron’s Avatar).

| Mo Hamptons land | |||
Madge watching season continues. We've followed Madonna's Hamptons escapade from farm owner to real estate agent to sign remover. Next title: land developer?
Driving down Mitchells Lane, we were greeted by a sign proudly claiming "In Contract." As previously reported, Madonna is buying up Wild Ocean Farm along with this property down the road at 10 Mitchells Lane. While "Development rights" are part of the package, it's already been disclosed that no homes can be built on the land. So will she find a loophole that'll allow her to subdivide and conquer? Nah. Most likely the open acreage will serve as a nice buffer zone between Madonna and the prying eyes of the public.

| S&S DVD delayed again | |||
Following several delays already, the latest date for the VH1 US broadcast of the Sticky & Sweet Tour is now Friday, April 2nd.
Because of that, the American street date for the Blu-Ray/DVD is now April 6th, as listed on Amazon.com. This should not affect the rest of the world, where the release is still reported to be March 26th/29th.
The DVD contains the full show as performed in Buenos Aires, which includes Madonna's live rendition of the Evita ballad Don't Cry For Me Argentina. There's also 30 minutes of bonus behind the scenes footage.

| Mo to direct | |||
Madonna wants to direct a movie about King Edward VIII and is hoping the former Doctor will play the ex-monarch. Madonna was originally planning to star in the movie herself as Wallis, because she saw similarities between herself and the character. But she is now in talks with Up In The Air star Vera Farmiga, 36, to take the role instead. The part of King Edward hasn’t yet been cast but a source said: “Madonna’s interest in directing a drama was first revealed a year ago. “She put it on hold while going through her divorce but is really keen to get into directing again and has her eye on David, having loved his work on Doctor Who.”

| Mo wins "Malawi" | |||
Madonna has won a dispute over the plot earmarked for her Malawi school, meaning villagers have been told to move from their homes. Villagers were refusing to move from a plot of land near the capital, Lilongwe, where Madonna wants to build a 15 million US dollar school for girls. The government, however, said it had originally planned to develop the plot, and only allowed the villagers to live there until a project was identified. Lilongwe District Commissioner Charles Kalemba, accompanied by other government officials and representatives from Madonna’s Raising Malawi charity, met about 200 villagers and told them they would have to move. The villagers were offered other government land. “Government allowed you to occupy this land because there was no project yet. But now that Madonna wants to build you a school you have to give way,” Mr Kalemba told the villagers. “You are lucky that Madonna has compensated you for your houses, gardens and trees.” Anjimile Mtila-Oponyo, who will be principal of Madonna’s school, said the singer paid the villagers more than 16 million kwacha (about 115,000 US dollars) to compensate them for their houses – mostly mud-and-thatch structures – and improvements such as gardens and trees. One villager said the 1,500 US dollars in compensation he received from Madonna for mango trees and three homes was not enough. He said his family had been living on his seven-acre plot for three generations. |
